5. Find a historical marker
Did you know that there are almost 500 historical markers in Indiana, and that 14 of them are in Elkhart County? They are maintained by the Indiana Historical Bureau and are divided into 24 categories, including nature. Krider Nurseries World’s Fair Garden in Middlebury is one of those sites, and you can still go there to see the original toadstool sculpture designed for the 1933-1934 Chicago World’s Fair. (It’s a great place to take photos!) As you travel around the state, look for markers that tell important historical facts, in the spot where they happened.
